Illinois home energy programs
Nicor Gas Rebates for Illinois Homeowners
Nicor Gas rebates are the most deadline-sensitive of the Illinois utility programs: they are structured around specific offer windows, and a rebate that was open in the spring may be closed by the time the furnace is installed in the fall.
Nicor Gas rebate offers carry application deadlines and per-household caps that are revised. Confirm current terms before purchasing.
Independent guidance — Illinois RDN is not a government agency and does not administer these programs.

Who it is for
- You must be a Nicor Gas customer at the service address.
- The home is generally required to be your primary residence.
- Equipment must meet the current efficiency specification for the offer.
- The purchase and installation must fall within the offer's stated window and be submitted before the application deadline.
What it covers
- Qualifying furnaces and boilers at defined efficiency levels.
- Thermostats and controls.
- Insulation, air sealing and duct sealing.
- Water heating measures.
- Windows, where the offer is open and the product qualifies.
- Separate income-eligible offerings with their own eligibility rules.
How to apply
- 01Check the offer is open
Confirm the specific measure still has an active offer and deadline on Nicor Gas's page before you commit to a purchase.
- 02Verify the equipment tier
Match the exact efficiency requirement. Contractors sometimes install a unit one tier below what the rebate needs.
- 03Note the cap
Per-project and per-household caps apply. If you are doing several measures, ask how the cap applies across them.
- 04Submit inside the deadline
Applications submitted after the deadline, even for qualifying work, are typically denied. Keep proof of submission.
- 05Ask about income-eligible offers
If your household may qualify, compare that track with the standard rebate before buying.
What to have ready
- Nicor Gas account number and service address.
- Itemized invoice showing model, serial number and installation date.
- Proof of purchase date where the offer requires it.
- Income documentation for the income-eligible track.
Where homeowners get stuck
- Buying in a gap between offer periods.
- Missing the application deadline after the work is complete.
- Assuming the full invoice is rebatable — caps apply.
- Overlooking that some measures require a participating contractor while others allow self-installation.
How it combines with other programs
Gas and electric rebates address different equipment, so a furnace and an air conditioner can each have their own incentive. Two rebates for the same measure are not allowed.

Questions homeowners ask
Are Nicor rebates available all year?
Not necessarily. Offers open and close, and some measures have annual budgets that run out. Check the current status before scheduling work.
Can I combine Nicor and ComEd rebates?
Usually for different measures — for example a furnace through Nicor and central air through ComEd. The same measure cannot be rebated twice.
Does a high-efficiency furnace always qualify?
No. Each offer specifies a minimum efficiency level, and equipment below it does not qualify even if it is marketed as high-efficiency.
What if the contractor offers an instant discount?
That is often the rebate delivered at the point of sale. Ask for the incentive shown separately on the invoice so you can verify the amount.
