Privacy Policy

This policy describes how Illinois Remodeling & Development Network handles information connected to illinoisrdn.com.

Plain-language summary

In short: we collect information you give us (like an email address) and some automatic technical data about your visit. We use it to run the Site, understand usage, and send updates, newsletters, or marketing. We may share your email with service providers and with selected marketing partners and outside organizations so they can send you their own offers or updates — we say this plainly rather than hiding it in vague language.

You can opt out of our marketing and future partner sharing at any time by emailing illinoisrdn@gmail.com, but that can't undo sharing that already happened, and you may need to unsubscribe from a partner directly. Details, including cookies, retention, and your choices, are below and may be subject to applicable law.

Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how the Illinois Remodeling & Development Network ("Illinois RDN," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with the illinoisrdn.com website (the "Site"), including our news coverage, permit-authority directory, and any sponsor or advertising content.

If you have questions about this policy or how your information is handled, you can reach us at illinoisrdn@gmail.com.

Information you voluntarily provide

Some parts of the Site may invite you to voluntarily provide information directly to us, such as your email address, name, or the content of a message, for example if you sign up for updates, contact us, or otherwise interact with a feature that asks for your details.

We do not require you to provide this information to browse the Site or use the public permit-authority directory, and you should not submit information you do not wish us to have.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain technical information when you visit the Site, such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring and exit pages, pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the date and time of your visit. This information is generally collected through server logs, cookies, and similar analytics technologies.

How we use information

We use the information described above for purposes such as:

  • Providing any service or content you specifically request from us;
  • Operating, maintaining, securing, and improving the Site;
  • Understanding how visitors use the Site through analytics;
  • Sending you updates about Illinois RDN, including newsletters, promotions, and marketing communications, where you have provided an email address to us; and
  • Detecting, investigating, and preventing fraud, abuse, or security incidents.

How we share information

We may disclose information we collect to:

  • Service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as website hosting, analytics, and email delivery;
  • Selected marketing partners, partnered companies, and other outside organizations, including, where you have submitted an email address to us, sharing that email address with those partners and organizations so that they may send you marketing messages, offers, or updates that they believe may be relevant to you;
  • Legal, regulatory, or law enforcement authorities where we believe disclosure is required or appropriate to comply with the law, respond to legal process, or protect our rights, users, or the public; and
  • A successor organization in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of some or all of our assets, in which case information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We are describing this sharing plainly and intentionally: submitting your email address to us may result in that address being shared with partners and organizations outside Illinois RDN for their own marketing purposes, not only for messages sent directly by us.

Your choices and opt-out

Marketing and newsletter emails we send generally include an unsubscribe link that lets you stop receiving future messages from that sender. You can also email us at illinoisrdn@gmail.com to ask us to stop sending you Illinois RDN marketing communications and to stop sharing your email address with new partners going forward.

Please note that an opt-out request sent to us cannot retract information that has already been shared with a partner or outside organization before we process your request. If you no longer wish to receive messages from a specific partner, you may need to unsubscribe with that partner directly, using the unsubscribe or contact method they provide.

These choices may be subject to applicable law in your jurisdiction.

Cookies and analytics

The Site uses Floot's built-in analytics tracker to understand how visitors use the Site. On each page view it records the page path, the referring page, your browser's user agent and language, and a country derived from your device's timezone (never the query string, hash, or your IP address), together with a randomly generated session identifier that expires after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Before you make a choice, and if you decline or later withdraw consent, that session identifier is kept only in memory for your current visit and is never written to storage on your device. If you accept, the identifier may be stored on your device (similar to a cookie) so it can be recognized across visits. We also use Google Analytics (GA4) for aggregate usage reporting, but GA4 does not initialize or collect any data until you accept.

A banner lets you accept or decline this tracking the first time you visit, and you can revisit or withdraw your choice at any time using the "Privacy choices" link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics collection and returns the Floot tracker to memory-only mode going forward; it does not retroactively delete data already recorded. Most browsers also let you block or delete stored data through their own settings.

Data retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, such as responding to your requests, maintaining our records, and meeting legal or operational obligations, after which we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

Security

We use reasonable measures intended to help protect information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at illinoisrdn@gmail.com so we can address it.

Where information is processed

Illinois RDN operates from, and processes information in, the State of Illinois and the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after an update constitutes your acknowledgment of the revised policy, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
